When you get the passport request in email, there is section you can print & sign which is for authorizing a representative. And yes, he/she will take your documents, and that piece of letter to the VAC in person.

Our case was done in Ankara, Turkey. Honestly I didn't send much of real "proof" about her going back to the homeland, but we both included letters trying to logically explain that given that our spousal application is in process, the last thing we would ever want to do is to disappoint CIC...

Our spousal app was received on April 25th. Also I sent in the visitor visa application before I got the sponsor approval, just a few days before.

After a long time, I got a paper mail yesterday that said my sponsorship was approved and my app is in Ankara now. I knew it though, as I had called a while ago!
