Does an accident on US driver license affect your insurance in Canada?

Car insurance in Canada is very expensive. In spite of a clean driving record with 10 years of US driving history, I had to shell out over $300 per month when I used to pay just $100 in NJ and less in PA before I moved in here. If you plan to be in Toronto, they do have access to your PA...

Declaring a foreign property in Canada tax return

I do have a property (for which I am still paying mortgage) and the current value of the property is more than $100,000 CAD I intend to sell this property this year (2018). Should I be declaring this in my...

Thanks Deepcur. I completed my H4 visa interview on Thursday and just waiting for the passport. The officer did ask me as to why I was switching from a H1 (with a approved I-140) to a H4 ? I told her frankly that I am looking out for a job in Canada and will eventually move my family once I...

Moving to Canada - Using upack service

I too have the Casual goods accounting document. Since we first landed in May 2014 and are moving only now Apr 2017, we have accumulated a few more goods than what was documented on the Goods to follow list. Would that be a problem? If yes, what's your suggestion? Thanks Simpson

    Moving from USA(H1B) to Canada(PR)

Hi Ht7, when you say last approval do you mean the last approval of an extension or the initial filing ? My H1 was filed in 2012 and I entered only in 2013. My current H1 extension has been approved until 2019 (as I was away for a couple of months). Was approved in Sep 2016. So are you saying I...

    Moving from USA(H1B) to Canada(PR)

Oh, nothing much. I was part of a large multinational company earlier. I was in Omaha, Nebraska and move to Cedar Rapids, Iowa and did not have a choice since I was on a L1 visa. Our second daughter was born here and we did not have much help since neither of our parents could travel. This was...

    Moving from USA(H1B) to Canada(PR)

Thanks Ht7 and ZingyDNA for your reply. Yes, I am from India. I guess the current EB2 date is Oct 2008. As my GC is still in the initial process, by the time I would get a Jan-Feb 2017 priority date. My elder daughter will be in her 7th grade and I will be in a bad situation as far as her...

Cross from USA to Canada using CoPR after landing

You can cross the border on your car or a rental car using a COPR. I have done it a couple of times and no questions asked. However a COPR is not a valid travel document for use on a commercial carrier - flight, bus, train etc. Hope this helps! Simpson

Pursue US GC or use the PR

I got my PR and did the landing in May 2014. I am in the US on a H1B visa and was trying to get my GC on EB1 as I am eligible for the same. (which usually takes less than a year). However my employer is not willing to process EB1 and they are willing to file a EB2 though I play a senior...

    Urgent: Travel Document to Canada

Thanks for your reply. I understand that we just need the COPR for crossing the border on a private vehicle. My question is can they refuse a travel document on the ground that we didn't stay for long. There is no issue with the card as the request is to collect it in person. How long does it...

    Urgent: Travel Document to Canada

I am currently residing in the US on a work visa. We completed the landing on May 29th 2014 and applied for our PR cards and left Canada in 5 days. Our PR cards reached a trusted relative of ours. However, we got the cards only for me and my two children. Due to a minor error by the immigration...
