Living in Canada, working in the US, help with tax prep.

Awesome, this is exactly how I thought the process would go. Thank you. So in his case, is it similar to mine where he doesn't have any withholding so he doesn't actually pay in the US, just in Canada and then files for a foreign tax credit in the US for what he paid to Canada?

Sorry I missed this link. That actually does help a lot and the first thread sounds very similar to my situation. Thank you!

Living in Canada, working in the US, help with tax prep.

Thank you. Those links are helpful for sure but don't particularly answering my case. It talks a lot about being a US citizen and working in Canada. I don't technically work in Canada. I work for a company in the US. I am an independent contractor, paid in USD to my US bank account. I have no...

Living in Canada, working in the US, help with tax prep.

I'm hoping that someone can help answer a few income tax questions I have. I'm also hoping I can do this myself and not have to hire an accountant. I am an American citizen and currently a permanent resident of Canada. I work remotely, from home for a company in the US. I have no withholdings...

    Question about importing my car

Forgot to mention that I am aware that the copy of my vehicle title needs to be faxed in 72 hours ahead of time. Do I just fax the title alone and nothing else, or some kind of cover letter with it?

    Question about importing my car

Hi there, I am currently seeking information on importing my car from the US. I am a permanent resident of Canada and a US citizen. Can someone please tell me if I have this process lined out correctly? 1. Fax in a copy of the vehicle title to the U.S. border crossing where I intend to cross. 2...

FEBRUARY 2016 - OUTLAND SPOUSAL APPLICANTS

I received COPR today! I received DM around April 26th I think it was. I looked at the envelope and the letter was post marked April 29th. Not sure why it took so long for me receive it since I'm in Ontario and my VO is in Ottawa. But I'm happy to finally have it. I am already in Canada, so I...

FEBRUARY 2016 - OUTLAND SPOUSAL APPLICANTS

When i checked the status of my application online on April 27th it said Decision Made. It could have been a few days before that because I hadn't been regularly checking. I still haven't received anything in the mail or in my email. I'm getting very antsy. Anyone else in the same position?

Questions about living in Canada but working in the US (from home)

Mine is always emailed to me. I didn't think it mattered anyway because when you file your taxes you put your address and where you lived for the year (to determine your state tax--if any). So I figured you would just put that you live in Canada. I mean, your employer could mail your 1099...

Questions about living in Canada but working in the US (from home)

Florida has no state tax, only federal. I do receive 1099-MISC each year. I don't know why it would make a difference where my 1099 is sent though?

Questions about living in Canada but working in the US (from home)

Hmm this sounds alright. Especially if the dollar and loonie stays the way it is. I wouldn't mind filing Canadian first and then not having to pay in the states. But I kind of expected that since Canadian taxes are higher that I will pay some in Canada too. Like if I paid US first, got the...

US Citizen with Canadian PR working remotely for American Company

So since I'm an independent contractor (I receive a 1099) and not a direct employee (no W2, only 1099) I should be fine right? So can I pay taxes in the US first, then claim the tax credit in Canada and then just pay the difference (since Canadian rates are higher) here in Canada? Or would it...

US Citizen with Canadian PR working remotely for American Company

I am in a similar position. I am a US citizen. My spouse is a Canadian citizen. We are currently waiting on our COPR and then I will officially immigrate. I work remotely (from home on my computer) for a US company. I am completely dumbfounded on how I will do my taxes. From everything I have...

Questions about living in Canada but working in the US (from home)

Ok so file in Canada first, then in the states? Even though I make money in the states only? I have read where people have said file in the states first, then Canada? I am an American citizen. I will be a Canadian permanent resident.

Questions about living in Canada but working in the US (from home)

I think you missed what I said. I technically work in the US as I am paid from an American company (as an independent contractor). I make money in America. But I will now be living in Canada (continuing to work from home for the American company). I won't be making money in Canada. How does this...

Question about exchanging my US drivers license for Canadian drivers license.

I mean I guess. I don't have my passport on file as identification. When I opened my bank account and credit card I opened with my DL. So that's what they have on file for identification purposes. I mean I can assume that I can change the info they have on file. I thought about trying to get a...
