One never wants to get one's hopes up prematurely, but it's my understanding that a request for the original current passport pretty much means they will soon be on their way to Canada. At least I hope so, since I feel like we've been waiting forever for her! ;)

I'm updating my own thread, just in case it is helpful to anyone. We have now heard that it takes about 1 week if you drop off your passport in person at the Hong Kong embassy. When our nanny gets her passport back, I will try to remember to update with the exact number of days she had to wait.
