Okay, I'm confused. When you get married the spouse can't stay in Canada until they fill out an immigration application and get accepted, right? If that's right then how do common-law marriages work?

I want to marry my boyfriend and bring him over. I'm not yet 18 so (at least as far as I know) I can't sponsor him. I live with my parents and I have their consent that he can stay with us but we'd be living under my family's roof. Do you think there's way around this?

I always thought people can become permanent residents instantly after marriage with a Canadian Citizen, is that false? If seeking PR, OHIP, and all those other goodies you have to send in an immigration application after (marriage), right? Does the immigration application require a sponsor or...
