It's not mandatory to get this number but just in case if you need to upload any webform or any other documents regarding the Non express file then if you use the application number, it's gonna be easy for them to find and attach it to the file.

So to get TFN you have to call IRCC and tell them about your application details whatever you have and then you can ask them for TFN, they will provide a number which will probably start from "XEP" and then 8 digits. Where you can remove X for any future reference where you might need to use...
