Yes, your visa on old passport is still valid unit it expires, but make sure you are carrying both the passports when you travel.

I see same for my parents, my dad is primary applicant & mom is secondary, they both gave biometric on the same day and only my dad's application is marked as biometric completed, I had called IRCC and they confirmed they have biometric of my mom on her application.

not sure, now the appointments are being assigned through webform, for my parents case, I got created webform as soon as I got biometric letter on July 11th & I got an appointment for July 15th. And you wont be able to create webform without biometric request letter.Hope this info helps.
