Your best bet is Tatkal.. In any case, you send your passport on the day of application submission to BLS. Once you submit the original, you won't get it back until completion. Normal processing can go up to 2 months which leaves you with no passport in your hand

Did police came for verification ? If yes, after how many days of status changing to "Sent for Police Verification" ? My daughter's passport is in police verification state and I got an email as well about the PV Initiation but no one is calling from the local police station.

Check in inspect mode if there is any police verification initiated ? On page 90 of this thread or around that someone provided the steps. Did you provide Canadian address to be printed ? If yes, then there won't be any PV.

Did You have a real challenge. If your passport goes into Police verification then most likely it's gone be very difficult. If it doesn't still it could be challenging. When did you apply ?

Yes, I would say one week at max. It's like this.. Printing ordered (couple of days), printed(couple of days) and one day to send to BLS. BLS sends it within one day.

I think you should see passport printed in couple of days and then it will be sent to BLS for further dispatch. This is what happened for my case.

My passport didn't go for police verification. But my passport moved from "Passport application is under review at Indian Embassy/Consulate" to next step which is printing in 2 weeks.

Did you put India address for your daughter and Canada address for your wife ? For my daughter (who is in Canada, a minor dependent) we have to put India address on the passport. BLS clearly mentioned that it has to be India address. Did you have similar situation?
