I entered Canada before my visitor visa expired. My visa itself has expired but my status is still valid for two more months. Am I eligible to apply for a visitor record to try to extend my status or is it just a waste of time considering my visa document is expired?

Thanks, I mean that if the officer allows me entry to Canada on the land border but does not stamp my passport then that should mean my legal stay is 6 months from this date, right?
