My wife's daughter lives in Canada and we intend to apply for a supervisa. Is that one application or two? (her as mother, then me as spouse). Do we need two letters of invitation or one?

I'm confused. I thought the supervisa was brought in because of the huge backlog of family sponsored immigration. But it seems they are mutually exclusive. What if you might like to stay long term if it turns out to be feasible? Do you have to deny it?
