    Canadian passport question

I applied in person since their office is <1km from my home, just a 10min walk. I put unknown since I had no immediate need for it, I still haven't used it. I didn't pay anything extra, and I got it 6 business days later including the mail delivery (Friday to Monday, so 10 days in total). Really...

    Brand new Canadian chiming in

None of those countries was even in EU in 2002. I didn't really have a plan, except to get a Ph.D. and then either stay in academia or go to industry. The company I work for pays pretty well, there are few in GTA that pay more for the same type of job. The only meaningful move would be to...

    Brand new Canadian chiming in

I agree, and I will apply for a passport in a couple weeks and use it exclusively, since I do in fact live here for >11 months in a year. I'm not expecting any trips in the next few months, but if there's some emergency case, it shouldn't be a problem, my original country is visa exempt for Canada.

    Brand new Canadian chiming in

Back then I think Canada was actually easier to immigrate to than UK. My home country isn't one of the rich western European kind :) I applied to half a dozen universities in USA and Canada, it's quite common for top students from where I come. UofT was the best for my field (Comp. Sci.) among...

    Brand new Canadian chiming in

I had my oath in Scarborough today, yay! I haven't posted much here but I've read a lot of stories and timelines in the last few years which have been very helpful, so I thought I'd give something back. So here's my complete timeline: - I came to Canada in August 2002 for a grad program at...

    Scarborough office citizenship oath

They say it depends on when you sent the application, but it still varies a lot for no apparent reason, and it's really annoying how they work. Anyway, my timeline: App received Aug 2012 Processing started Feb 2013 Test date Dec 2, 2013 Oath Jan 29, 2014 For some reasons related to common...

    Scarborough office citizenship oath

The test went fine, 20/20, I wasn't even worried about it, I only worried about getting RQ-ed (it is by now oficially ok to use it as a verb :p). The interview also went great, maybe 5-6 minutes in total, she didn't ask me much. There was one thing that did worry me, and she did notice it: in...

    Scarborough office citizenship oath

I can confirm this: I wrote the test today at Scarborough, on the the board in the test room it said 2-4 months, and the interviewer also told me to expect the oath ceremony in 2-4 months.

    AOR Letter

Did you give them en e-mail address? CIC received my application Sep 16 and they sent me an email on Nov 7 saying they started my file, and a week later they emailed me again saying they had sent my case to Seattle, but I had not received anything in writing. If you paid by cheque, you could...

    Translation of documents

I expressed this concern to my translator, and she assured me that what she provided would be enough for CIC. She's a member of ATIO. Though I haven't gotten IA notice yet so I'm hoping she wasn't lying :P

Work permit, TRV & reentering Canada

Hello everybody, First some background: I came to Canada on a student permit with a temp resident visa (TRV) that was valid until Aug 2007. In the meantime, I got a postgraduate work permit, and then a temp work permit (TWP), and then yet another TWP valid until Feb 2011. AFAIK, I am allowed to...
