How to confirm MER? Will CIC send a email to tell you they have received your ME result? Or you have to check your online app status to find it out?

Dear guys, My online application status changed 1 day after I received ME request from "application received" to "in process". I am wondering is it normal? And also, from my understanding and ppl's talk, ME request received = application approved! I am also wondering is it correct? Thanks
