Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

Let me know if I can help. Like I said, I think I figured out AES Direct pretty well. At least, I received confirmation that my EEI was valid and received. If my car was in the US at the time and within 72 hours of my move I *think* I would have been fine.

Creating an EIN shouldn't affect your taxes as a sole proprietor or single person LLC, those taxes are filed as personal income just as you would without an EIN. In fact, sole proprietors and single person LLCs can file their taxes using their SSN, the EIN is optional. Be prepared to be exposed...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

As far as what penalties exist for not exporting, I have no idea, but it doesn't seem wise to mess around with this stuff. Forcing AES Direct on everybody might be a way of ensuring that professional exporters have continuous employment.

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

Yes, I happened to have an EIN for my business, but my business has absolutely no relation to anything remotely relating to shipping crap, so I figured this was simply needed to pacify the requirements of this system and provided it just to see how far I could get. I was thinking of starting a...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

For those that care, as it turns out we are able to cancel the import, it just requires a notarized letter from somebody in the US stating that the car is there. What is up-in-the-air is whether we still have to pay their $200 fee, but this is still much better than having to somehow arrange an...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

I'm confused as hell. This seems like a reasonable interpretation, and was my original interpretation too. We were originally planning on crossing in Detroit, and the original information we had was to email the Detroit export guys our VIN and a description of the car via a Word form that was...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

To be clear, I was successful in using AES Direct, I received a response saying that my shipment was set, so while this entire system is not at all designed to be used by just-a-guy-that-wants-to-export-his-family-vehicle, it is possible. My only advice is to figure all of this out and suffer...

That's exactly what I thought too, but from this same page: Processing EEI is what AESDirect is for. From the Q&A:

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

Yeah, it's a new system and policy: https://help.cbp.gov/app/answers/detail/a_id/1736/~/exporting-self-propelled-vehicles it's called AESDirect, and basically makes individuals enter their own shipments directly into the US system rather than some agent doing this on their behalf. The training...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

The CBSA does have some info on exporting goods from Canada, but they are tailored towards businesses. To answer one of your earlier questions which I failed to address, the reason why I aborted the original export/import was because the US export process is just so incredibly complex and...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

I've gone through the RIV site very carefully. I want to know what the penalties will be for "canceling" an import for a car that is not in Canada, yet has a form 1 filed for it. I also want to know what the process is like for exporting a car out of Canada. I don't need to import it into the...

Need advice on RIV/Transport Canada issue

Hello, we have a problem and really need some sound advice... We were originally planning on importing our vehicle from the US, but decided against doing this since the process proved to be a living nightmare, particularly on the US side of things which has changed recently. Instead, we opted...

    Visiting Canada before landing

Hello, My wife received her Confirmation of Permanent Residency. We need to take a quick weekend trip up to Canada in a couple of weeks, but aren't prepared to actually land yet, we will likely not have enough time to finish the B4. Will there be any complications with a quick weekend visit...

    Landing process, vehicle import questions

Yeah, I was obviously misreading the Toyota page and couldn't find the Smart page, I didn't know it was listed under Mercedes. I guess we just need to figure out if the Smart has EIS, but my assumption is that it ships with it, and that the RIV just wants to assure that this hasn't been disabled...

    Landing process, vehicle import questions

Yeah, the RIV website says that my wife's 2008 Smart car, and my 2003 Corolla do not qualify. It also mentions that the list may not be complete, but perhaps this whole importing deal is going to be more trouble than it is worth...

    Landing process, vehicle import questions

Fantastic guys, it looks like there are only three of my original questions that are outstanding, plus I have one new one :) What, exactly, should we expect when crossing the border? Is there enough documentation needed that should we make landing a separate trip, rather than during our next...

    Landing process, vehicle import questions

Thanks guys! I guess it's best to err on being super detailed with the B4, just so that there aren't any complications nor red flags. Am I correct in stating that if something is forgotten we'll have to pay duty on that item, or are there other, more severe penalties?

    Landing process, vehicle import questions

Thanks Alurra71! Is there a way I can post links here so that you can see from what CIC page I'm getting the info about car importing from? My car is a 2003 Corolla, it is not listed in the vehicle import compatibility list. I appreciate your response here, this is reassuring.
