I would recommend sending webform for status of application every two-three weeks. Need to only state that "I'll appreciate if you can please provide an update on my application". I think it helps getting one's application out of snooze mode.

Send it through Canada express-post to the courier address (22 de Varennes Street one).

Black and white are fine. Make sure they get certified by the guarantor.

Copy of driver's license should be fine. Not all have drivers license though. I would still suggest to send certified copies of two identity documents (guarantor certifies them). i) Health card or drivers license ii) Foreign passport (even if expired)
