It won't increase your chances to get the visa. Since you were dumb enough to think otherwise, you don't have a shot at the IQ test either.

That question asks if you've been refused admission at a port of entry, not if you've been refused a visa. You don't have to mention previous visa rejections anywhere.

It depends on the rest of your application. I had 3 years gap, but I got the visa without any problems.

Today, I finally got my passport with the visa (multiple entry for 4 years) for the course BSc (Hons) Mathematics and Statistics at McMaster University. :D I had gap of almost 3 years, during which I was self-studying mathematics.
