What to say at the border? Girlfriend, Fiancee or "Just Friends"? (long message)

"there is a guy here who got flagged because at some point he went to Canada saying he was going to meet somebody he had met online and the IO decided he must be a major weirdo and red-flagged him in their computers. Since then, he's always pulled aside and double checked when he's coming to...

application sent to MICC takes too long

From looking at tracking items at various places, it looks like the avearge time between approval at Mississauga to getting an AOR (when it arrives at your local embassy) is about 2.5 weeks - and that's for everyone (even me in the US). Belive me - this process teaches patience better than...

    Does anyone know....

Which now confuses me... If you can bring in these items duty and tax free, why list a price at all? Can you put "0" or do they decide if the items are eligible for duty? Seems kind of anal to me. If you can bring them in without tax or duty, it would be logical to put "0" for the amount.

    Does anyone know....

And an added bonus question, how would I go about transferring my cheque account when I close my one here in the states and create a new one when I move to Canada? Do I need to have a cheque with me of all the funds at landing or can I do the transferr at the new bank in Canada?

    Does anyone know....

So, according to his form, everything gets a duty tacked onto it? Even my CD collection (exstensive), clothing, stereo, and kitched untensils? Some of my stuff is old and I can not remember what I actually paid for it. Or is there a matrix or list that spells out what is duty free or not?

    Does anyone know....

..of the form I would eventually use to show "good to follow later" when I get to the "landing" phase of my journey? Is there a form on-line or is it given to me after I am approved of everything? I am initially planning to Land first (when the time comes - preferrably YVR), then come back to...

    re: honeymoon in canada

I was married in Canada (Alberta) in May and had my honeymoon in Victoria, BC right after that - all after my passport was stamped.

    marrying

I am also from the US and got married in Canada. My wife is sponsoring me in an Outland application since applying inland would make it a longer process. Just make sure that when you visit Canada (in the future) during your application process that you have documentaion that shows you will be...

Now to the next step...shuffled off to Buffalo....

Just got word of my wife being approved as a sponsor. My application has now been sent to Buffalo, NY. So...if I read the posts here correctly, if all goes well, my app will get sent to Seattle, WA (since I live in Portland, OR)? If there is a problem, it stays in Buffalo and I have to travel...

    Another question for ImmOfficer.

Hello again kind sir. This has to do with the proof of showing your relationship with your sponsor is " on-going and genuine". I realize that your office deals with many fraudulant cases where a 'relationship' is only used in a loose sense to gain Canadian residency. The forms ask for a LOT of...

Welcome to our new poster - IO/MD

ImmOfficer - what you are doing here makes the whole process more bearble. Your presence in this forum may be the key for a lot of people who plan to be Canadians and puts a real face to the process. Many have made IO's and thier ilk out to be perpetually angry people who have many 'bad days'...

    For IO/MD

"For me and all those I work with, if a Pardon or Expungement removed the conviction completely OR changes the disposition to dismissed or acquitted, then we will not consider the crime when determining your admissibility." So, if an expungement order permanently seals the records and the...

    Successful visit and more...

maybe we should ask IO/MD...he seems to have a handle on such things. Personally, once you are 'flagged', only an act of a real and physical God can change that status (or so an angry IO over the phone told me)

    For IO/MD

How do you treat Expungments and Pardons? I have been told that Canada does not honor such items and that they are actually a lie. Because of this, does one who has an expungment or a pardon still need to have the rehabilitation form from Canada when all of the data pertaining to the...

    Successful visit and more...

I have just returned from a nice visit heklping out and attending my step-daughter's wedding in Alberta. When I went through customs at YVR (Vancouver Airport), as usual, I had to be screened twice because of a customs official (in 2002)who felt that visiting someone who I met on-line was not a...

Thread for the people who sent application to CPC-M btwn 20 July to 20 Aug

Still have not heard from CPC-M about my wife's end of the app. I hope they do make a decision on her end before I leave for my step-daughters wedding this coming weekend. My only hope is that the immigration/border people don't freak out about me visiting three months since my last visit. The...

    Good News

Congrats to you :) I am happy your prayers have been answered. Do you know where you will be going to in Canada? I hope to be with my wife in Alberta when my app gets approved.

    Police Certificates and the RCMP.....

I know that with my family application, the RCMP does a background check even though I supplied two certificates (one from the State of Oregon and the other from the FBI - both clean as a whistle). When they do this extra background check, do they use the same resources that the above agencies...
