I have a few more questions...

Yeah, even after successfully landing the questions keep coming. ;) One, I'm a US citizen living in Canada so I know I have to file some crazy tax forms pretty soon here. Any advice on pulling that off? Two, is it possible to use income-based repayment on US federal (public) student loans...

Urgent: Destination Alberta but breaking journey in Quebec.

IIRC, Quebec WILL hassle you. You have to prove your intent not to stay in Quebec, and I'm not sure what the standards are for that. I'd change the itinerary to land in a different province, then carry on into Quebec via road after landing for the visit (they can't hassle you then). ANY other...

Case Notes / PR Expiration Question

That's it? No manual renew? Should be easy enough then. :)

Case Notes / PR Expiration Question

I knew how to do this at one point, but can't seem to figure it out now, even after an hour bouncing around the CIC website and doing Google searches. Where do I go to order the case notes for my file? Now that I've landed, I'm curious as to what's in there. Also, I've heard PRs can expire...

    PR CARD

I needed my COPR, Passport, SIN Page, and my US Driver's License to get an Alberta DL. They took the US DL and gave me a temp Alberta DL until the final one gets here in the mail.

    Well here's another oddball question

You know this form? That you have to fill out when flying to Canada? http://www.cbsa.gc.ca/publications/forms-formulaires/e311-eng.pdf Uuuuhhhh.... what do I put there when I land? Do I fill out the resident one? The visitor? Both? Neither? If visitor, do I put in an infinity symbol or what...

    Landing in a different Province

My new landing date is July 25, and I'm about ready to buy the ticket. But, the wife and I had the idea to go to Vancouver for a few days since she's off work then. I ship my stuff the 24th, land in Vancouver (not looking forward to it, 'cause I've been through customs there and the wait was...

    The B4 Form

This is something I didn't consider. I might have to make a detailed list for the UPS/FedEx people. If that's the case, I suppose if I make the B4 Forms detailed, I can find a way to copy-paste over to theirs. Thanks!

    The B4 Form

I'm beginning to fill out the B4/B4A forms as I fill up boxes. I was wondering, do I have to list each and every item, or can I list things as, say -Assorted PC Games -Assorted Books -Socks etc So far I've been listing every item, but this... could get tedious. I tend to assume the worst...

    OHIP/provincial health qualifying rules

I've heard nothing but horror stories regarding signing up for Ontario's coverage. Alberta was so much easier. I haven't even landed yet but I was able to sign up with a visitor record. :P

    Landing experience

IIRC, daytime running lights are often a requirement (some older cars might not need them).

Shipping stuff via FedEx and using the B4 form

It now looks like my cheapest option is to buy a one-way plane ticket, fly up, and have my stuff shipped via FedEx/UPS/USPS. Normally this would be bat-**** insane for most people, but I've gotten rid of almost everything I own and never had furniture in the first place (up 'til now my permanent...

Here comes the move. (General questions)

Can I drive my car over the border but NOT import it? It looks to be worth more in the US. Could I drive it back over and sell it somewhere? The other option is renting a U-Haul as one-way car rental is a whopping $250 a DAY. Alternatively, if I do import it... I'm still paying on the loan. Do...

Here comes the move. (General questions)

About a month remains until my moving date. I'm slowly making progress with packing, and I've come up with a few more questions. Do I have to inform a specific crossing point that I'm coming (particularly in regards to the car import) or is there a general number to call? Right now we're...

once it shows 'Decision has been made" what is next?

Wait for others to chime in before listening to my advice, but... I'd say USA is the way to go just because Canada and the US are close neighbors and each other's best trading partner. And I know for a fact the US is a visa-exempt country for Canada. I don't know if Portugal is. Again, wait...

Finally got the COPR! Now, of course, more questions X)

I actually am getting a few new appliances by cashing out my Amex points. Small ones, though. Stand mixer, blender, toaster oven. Wonder if they'll complain about that. Everything else is OLD. Monitor is 6 years old, PS3 is from 2006, etc. Car is a 2008 model I bought used a few years ago: A...

Finally got the COPR! Now, of course, more questions X)

Hmmm... I thought the vehicle import fee was lower than what's being presented on these links. Do I just it's value based on it's CURRENT selling value, or it's original MSRP? Also, do I have to pay import fees on the other goods I bring? (Books, kitchen stuff, PlayStation, etc)
