As far as I know that GIC is mandatory if you apply under SPP category and if you go through the SPP check list you see that student must purchase GIC certificate in order to complete the application for study permit. I think senior members can suggest more on this...

Hi All, yesterday I sent an email to CHC and today I got reply from embassy. I did mention Application number which starts with S******** but embassy asked me to mention UCI number as well. I know only my application number. What does UCI stand for...Please let me know about it. Thanks Seema

yes..you are right..but it depends on candidate`s travel history. Since he visited more than five countries in past before applying visa for canada that was why embassy had to check all five countries..but for example someone visits only one country then processing time would be reduced..
