How long have you had your job? I've seen people get their PR under Canadian Experience Class in six months, and it gives you a bridging work permit. It might be a better option for you, of course it depends on your job experience.

I think that if they had confused your application for an inland one, they would've sent it back to you because of wrong forms (you filled outland forms, so some inland forms would be "missing"). That's what happened to those people. So at least you would've heard something. I hope your MP...

You don't have to leave Canada, you can stay until the validity of your latest work permit.

It should say directly on the Visa in your passport what the expiry date is. A Visa and a Work Permit are two separate things, so most likely if you got your work permit in Canada they didn't automatically give you a Visa. Make sure you have BOTH!

Did you apply online? If you applied online, just go to MyCIC, it should say whether it's open or not, but they won't tell you much about it until it's done. If you applied by mail, I think you have to wait until you hear from them, there is no way to check the status on a paper application...
