Unfortunately this would not be acceptable IMHO. You can carry travellers cheque or transfer to a canadian bank account (e.g. scotia). Then after you land and open / activate your account, transfer them back. I feel this is the only possible option

For those who are thinking of opening a bank account with Scotia bank, I had applied online on April 22nd (pretty straightforward if you have your COPR / Passort details with you). I got the account opening confirmation with details on how to transfer money using SWIFT code on 6th may in harcopy...

Either way should be fine. I have not yet opened the account with Scotia (apparently it can be done totally online without physically going to the office) The couple of advantages which I thought were: - no need to carry a huge travellers cheque or DD - will provide u a Credit card on landing...
