Hi @Miss bee
AND everyone,

Can you please share some light with my following situation;
I submitted for NON-EE PNP PR In November, 2024. Still waiting for the AOR. My Open Work permit (PGWP) expires in August 2025. What are my options to "maintained status" in Canada?

Before my WP expires, does submitting BOWP application (but without acknowledgement of receipt letter from PR), can buy me some time and continue worki in canada?

As of today Work permit form inside Canada (initial and extension) processing time - 225 days [Last updated: June 3, 2025].

Since (and hopefully) November-2024 is the month that soon have to have AOR, does it make sense to assume that I will be able to get AOR soon that I can later submit to BOWP application via webform, before BOWP starts processing?

Thankyou
my PGWP will expire June 2026, same concerns. tooooo slow now.

Still October submitted applications are in the queue for AOR. After that November will start. Hence, be patient.

  • You only get “maintained status” if you submit an application to extend or change conditions of your work permit before it expires.
  • Maintained status means you can continue working under the same conditions of your PGWP until a decision is made on your new work permit.
Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP)
  • To be eligible for a BOWP, you must have an AOR for your PR application.
  • If you apply for a BOWP without an AOR, IRCC will refuse it — submitting it early won’t “buy time” or maintain your status
Your Best Path:
  • Wait to receive your AOR. AORs for November 2024 applicants are typically expected around June–August 2025 (so you’re close!).
  • Once you have your AOR, submit your BOWP application immediately.
  • As long as you submit the BOWP application before your PGWP expires (August 2025), you’ll automatically have maintained status until the BOWP is approved.
About the Processing Time (225 days):
  • Yes, it’s long — but if you submit your BOWP before expiry of your current PGWP, you’ll be in maintained status the whole time (even if it takes 225 days or more)
Final Advice:
  • Don’t apply for a BOWP before you have an AOR — it will be refused.
  • Keep monitoring for your AOR (you can try to link your PR application to your online account, if possible).
  • As soon as you get it, apply for the BOWP to secure maintained status.
You can’t apply for a BOWP yet
Without an AOR, a BOWP application will be refused, so you can’t rely on it.

Consider Other Work Permit Options
If you’re not eligible for a BOWP yet, here are other potential options

Personally If I were in your shoes, I’d require an update. I’m not sure if u’d get the reason to solve the issue of delay. Generally the delay in medical update means “Further Medical Assessment” needed, or the delay might be due to Panel physician and Lab processing, or it could be general delay due to high volume of applications.

Anyway, asking for GCMS although cost some money but, would not stall your actual processing neither would create any negative impact on the file. Also there is no limit to how many requests can can make per application( in case u need to request again).

Hi everyone, I submitted my non-express entry pnp on 1 November, and have not yet received AOR/BIL. I have to travel abroad for 1 month and 15 days from 1 July. My question is that if I receive BIL during that time, what should I do? and how long I will have time to do biometric? Thank you.

I believe it's 30 days. You can also provide biometrics outside of Canada.

Make sure you have a valid TRV and a work permit to return to Canada after your trip.

Hi @Miss bee , I have a question regarding my situation. I have applied for non ee Pnp PR application in late November and my PGWP is expiring in July 26. With the current pace it is unlikely that I will receive AOR before my expiry date. Therefore, I would like to apply for a lmia-exempt closed work permit with a support letter. I have recently requested and received the letter from province. However, I have concern that my nomination has already expired. I have applied for PR before its expiration date but I am waiting for AOR more that 6 months. Do you think that an expired nomination can be a reason of rejection of the closed work permit or is it considered valid because I submitted PR before it expired.

Thank you!

If you receive your Biometric Instruction Letter (BIL) while you’re abroad, don’t worry—here’s what you can do:
  1. Time to Complete Biometrics: You typically have 30 days from the date of the BIL to complete your biometrics.
  2. Options While Abroad:
    • Do Biometrics Abroad: If you’re in a country that has a VAC (Visa Application Centre) or an Application Support Center (ASC) that offers biometrics services, you can do them there. Check the IRCC website for a list of VACs.
    • Request an Extension: If you cannot do the biometrics in the country you’re visiting (or it’s not possible within the 30-day timeframe), you can request an extension. Contact IRCC via a webform explaining your situation (mention your travel dates and why you cannot complete them during the trip)

Even if your nomination has already expired, it is considered valid for the purpose of applying for a closed LMIA-exempt work permit under R204(c) (provincial nominee class) . Make sure your WPSL is less than 6 months old . You need valid work permit support letter but you can use expired nomination certificate. Your employer have to submit job offer in employer portal.

Do not give partial details. please add about compliance fees(around$240): which must be paid by your employer. Inform your employer that he/she take screenshot of compliance fees receipt. which is important in IMM5710e form.
