Visitor Visa to Common-Law Sponsorship

Hi !

My work permit is due to expire in September and me (Irish) and my partner (Canadian) are currently working towards Common Law so that she can sponsor me for Common Law PR.

We have been living together since May 1st, she has been added as an occupant on my lease and we have opened a joint bank account together which we pay our rent, hydro, internet etc. so we will have almost 5 months of common law cohabitation by the time my work visa expires in September.

I have enough money saved up for my portion of the rent for the months that i will not be working, as well as enough money to buy food etc. for those months. My partner will also be supporting me during that time.

The plan is to apply change my status from a worker to a visitor visa stating that the reason for changing is that we are working towards common law status and we aim to complete the 12 month consecutive months of cohabitation. After which my partner will submit a Common Law - PR sponsorship application next May.

Is there anything that we should make sure we do/say when converting my status from a worker to a visitor ? Is there also anything we shouldn't do ?

Thanks in advance for any replies ! :)
John

Hi John. May I ask which bank allows you to open a joint bank account with your partner while you're in Canada on a tourist visa? Thank you in advance.

Hi, not John but I got the joint bank account from TD with my tourist visa and the marriage certificate. Once, I have PR, I went back and open a new one just for me
