Hey everyone,

I'm in a bit of a tough spot and could really use some advice or guidance from anyone who’s been through something similar.

Here’s my situation:

  • My Open Work Permit (OWP) expired on January 6, 2025.
  • I applied for a Bridging Open Work Permit (BOWP) on November 8, 2024, but it was refused on March 6, 2025 because I forgot to include my Confirmation of Nomination (PNP PR – non-Express Entry)(I did, however, included my AOR).
  • I reapplied for Restoration + BOWP on March 16, 2025, this time with all the correct documents.

PR Application Timeline:

  • Submitted PNP PR application on June 16, 2024.
  • Last update was March 14, 2025 — received a medical request, which I’ve already passed.

Employment:

  • I’m still employed by my company but currently on a leave of absence while I sort out my work permit.

My Questions:

  1. Work Eligibility:
If my restoration is approved but BOWP is still in process, can I legally work again? Or do I have to wait for the BOWP approval?
  2. PR Progress:
Since I’ve passed my medical exam, does that mean my PR file is moving forward positively? Should I expect P2 (AIP) soon, or a direct PR confirmation portal invite?
  3. PR and Work Authorization:
If I receive P1 or P2 while still waiting on BOWP, can I start working again?
  4. Risk of PR Refusal:
Is there still a risk my PR could be rejected even though I’ve passed the medical? Or does this mean I’m mostly in the clear?
  5. Tried contacting my MP’s office but haven’t heard back yet — any advice on how to follow up?

I’d really appreciate any help, thoughts, or shared experiences. This process has been incredibly stressful, and I just want to get back to working legally and finally get our PR. Thank you in advance

No, you cannot work. You are out of status in Canada. Submitting a restoration application does not give you status in Canada or give you the ability to work. You have to wait until you hold a valid work permit again.

Passing the medical does not mean your application is approved. There is still background and security checks and possibly other steps. Eligibility is not complete and yes, there is still a chance PR could be refused.
