Hi,

My wife needs to travel back to Canada in two weeks from India. She had to urgently travel to India because of a death in the family. Her PR expired like a week before this happened and we were in a process of filling out an application but couldn't complete. However, she has a valid H4 Visa. I have H-1B and commute to detroit for work and my wife still has valid H-4 visa. We will submit PRTD application but is it possible that she flies back to the US and then I drive her into Canada? If the CBSA officer asks and we tell that my wife travelled to India will that be a problem. I've personally entered once via land border from the US on an expired PR card but never visited any other country.

The CBP might be an issue because even Canadian citizen being detained... PRTD would be safer bet.
