Can I apply for family sponsorship while waiting for work visa?

Hi,
I applied 6 months ago for my pgwp, the response already exceeded the waiting time they gave me and I don’t know how long they will take.

My boyfriend is Canadian and we’ve been living together for more than a year so we meet the requirements for a common-law relationship. Could I apply for sponsorship while a wait for my pgwp? Will this speed up the process to get a work permit?

You can apply but it will not speed up work permit.

Yes, he can submit an application to sponsor you as his common law partner. This will not speed up the processing of the PGWP application.

6 months is way too long . Did your work permit application get moved to Etobicoke? If it did then you must not waste time in applying for your permanent resident if you have been living together for a year.

Etobicoke is for non routine applications. Applications get sent there if there needs to be an investigation . Check your gckey portal if you got a letter saying it was moved to Etobicoke. Look into getting a gcms note maybe it will help but if you are passed the timeline you should be looking for alternatives. I don't know your situation but maybe seek a consultation.
