Hello All,

I am a student with a valid study permit until 2026 that applied for an inland TRV in February 2024. It’s been more than a year (!) and my application is still stuck in background check. I ordered officer notes last week.

Also, I am graduating soon and I want to apply for a PGWP. Will there be a problem if the TRV application is still in progress? What if I renew my passport for PGWP purposes? Then my TRV application would be based on the old passport. Should I withdraw the TRV application? Will I have implied status if the study permit is still valid?

TRV is unrelated to PGWP so not an issue. Have you contacted IRCC recently via webform about processing time? When did your TRV expire? No need to withdraw although would update your application via webform with new passport information.

  • You can apply for PGWP even if your TRV is still in process. They are separate.
  • Renew your passport if needed. PGWP will be linked to the new passport; TRV can be updated later.
  • No need to withdraw the TRV, unless you need to travel urgently.
  • Implied status is not an issue since your study permit is valid until 2026.
  • Once you apply for PGWP, you can work full-time while waiting for the decision.
