Can time spent in restoration status be count towards physical presence?

Hi everyone,

I’m currently filling out my citizenship application and had a 6-month period of restoring my status while my PR application was in progress. Should I include that period in my application? If so, which category should I select? Can I choose "visitor visa" for that time?

For context, I originally came to Canada on a study permit and later obtained my PGWP. During the time I was out of status and applied for status restoration, I still had a valid visitor visa while staying in Canada. In the physical presence section, there’s a part where I need to enter all my previous temporary resident statuses. Does that count as temporary resident status? Or will be considered out of status and no need to enter that time?

I’ve tried calling IRCC multiple times to clarify this but haven’t been able to reach an agent. I’d appreciate any advice from those who have been in a similar situation.

Thanks!

This six month period cannot be counted towards citizenship. You were out of status during that time.

Thanks for the response! Should I not include that 6-month period in my citizenship application at all? In the "Physical Presence" section, it asks for all temporary resident statuses I’ve held in the past five years. Should I only list my study permit and PGWP, or do I need to include the restoration period as well?

Here are my timeline details:

Study Permit: February 2019 – September 2020
PGWP: May 2020 – May 2021
PR Application Sent: November 2020
PR Application Returned (Missing Document): June 2021
Applied for Restoration of Status: June 2021
Work Permit Granted: November 2021 – May 2023
PR Approved: January 2023

I appreciate any guidance on this—thanks!
