Hi All,

I am a Canadian citizen. If me and my partner get married here in Canada and I applied for Spousal Sponsorship in land,
Can he apply for Open Work Permit after receiving AOR?
Based on the current immigration timeline, how long do you think it will take to get a work permit?

timeline wise - can't say. I know some got it in a few weeks, some got it in months...

16- Usually the process would go in cycles. A wait time/quietness in the beginning, then bam bam bam every one month or two you would have an update bio, med, eligibilities another wait time/quietness-the longest one in whole process- for background and another bam bam bam final decision, P1, P2 then another wait time/quietness-the last one- before your Ecopr.

19- I remember seeing in Reddit, requesting your GCMS notes costs you time, since they stop the whole process just to gather the info you requested, so do not make a habit out of it/do not do it unless it is necessary. Otherwise, you will be the one digging your own hole.

it's not correct to say "they stop the whole process just to gather the info you requested", you can and should order it anytime you want to know your application status and notes

Im just trying to decide whether its much better to get married outside canada then apply spousal sponsorship while he waits for PR outside of the country.

Or get married here, but will have to wait Work Permit approval and just stay at home but do nothing for a long time.

13- The two above is said though, to keep your mental health balanced find a sweet spot to do all those. Do not spend your every minute refreshing the same screen. In the end it all comes down to that: Once you submit it you have no control over it, it is a waiting game, like an investment allocate and forget it.

I agree with everything you said! I cannot emphasize how important this is though. I found myself checking the tracker and GCKey accounts multiple times everyday and it was driving me crazy. Horrible anxiety, heartburn, nightmares... you name it. Then I decided to set a rule for myself: only check them on Mondays and Thursdays while keeping an eye on my email account the rest of the week just in case and it's gotten so much better!

I recommend anyone who is struggling with anxiety to do something like this, it doesn't have to look the same, whatever works best for you.

Speaking of GCKey accounts and linking your application to it, I did that with mine around a month ago or so but so far it's empty! No updates or messages in it that do show in the tracker. Do you guys think it'll be updated next time my application gets an update?

Have you tried checking this tracker? https://ircc-tracker-suivi.apps.cic.gc.ca/en/login I think more updates (more frequently) on this but on gckey, I noticed they do big updates there

16- haha yes, I thought quietness/bambambam was a good way to put it

19-Ow, sorry if I spread misinformation! I never needed it personally in my process, but there was a person in a Reddit sub, said for their excessive processing time(like 5~6 months backlog) that was the only explanation he had. So, maybe he was the unlucky one, or you were the lucky one, you never know with IRCC

Exactly! I noticed myself, I created a bubble including people waiting for the same thing and that bubble was fed with multiple info sources(FB, Reddit, Whatsapp, this forum etc.) I can not deny the help and solidarity of course, but when it is the times you are waiting for an update and everybody else is, then that bubble starts swirling you into it. Funny part, the exact same day I told to my wife like "Okay, I am going to let it go, I am going to be zen about it..." after an hour later that text, I got my final email
About updates in GCKey, you should be able to see your application in both your GCKey and tracker, if you do not even see them, that is not normal. If you see them, yet you have no updates, it should catch up on your next/upcoming update.

Yeah! I use both the tracker and my gckey account but thanks for the suggestion.

About updates in GCKey, you should be able to see your application in both your GCKey and tracker, if you do not even see them, that is not normal. If you see them, yet you have no updates, it should catch up on your next/upcoming update.
