I applied for the Non Express Entry PR in September. I am on maintained status via a closed permit using an LMIA-Exempt Job offer and PNP nomination; no AOR yet. No decision on the bridging visa application. Let's just say for the sake of example I do get the work visa extension confirmed.

My Irish passport expires in mid-July. As my AOR will probably be issued in Feb or March (if I get it) I doubt I will get the E-COPR before mid July. I can renew the passport now as I have 6 months left.
Let's just say for the sake of example I do get the work visa extension confirmed. If I renew my passport and send a webform in with the new passport details does that mean my work permit extension (and PR application) transfer to the new passport so I can just keep working beyond July and until a decision is made?

Thanks

Bump

I got my Bridging visa confirmed and dated to passport date in Mid-July. I have applied for my passport replacement so it should arrive in the next week or 2.
Once I send my updated passport details via webform will that bridging visa extend to my new passport end date?

I will keep trying here.

Passport arrived so I sent off the webform on March 11th and got the email saying document accepted. So like will that just be updated on the work permit to extend the expiry date to what it would have been had I used this passport to apply, as opposed to the Mid-July date it currently stands at because of my old passport?
Do I have to do a whole new application? If so would I be able to apply for a BOWP as I now have the AOR and have maintained status albeit on a quasi closed permit?

I hate to spam you @Miss bee as I know people are always doing this in the Non-Express Entry(PNP) Online Applications Gather here thread but this feels like something you would be knowledgeable about.

Thanks

Renewing your passport and submitting the new details via webform does not automatically change or extend the validity of a work permit that was issued based on the old passport.

Let’s unpack how this plays out:

1. Work Permit (Closed or Bridging

If your work permit extension is approved before you update IRCC with the new passport, here’s what matters:
Work permits are usually issued up to the passport’s expiry date.
  • So if your old passport expires in mid-July, your new work permit might only be valid until July, even if your job offer or PNP support letter would allow for a longer period.

  • If this happens, and you later renew your passport and notify IRCC via webform, that does not automatically extend the work permit.
  • You’d need to apply for a new work permit again with the new passport to get the full period you’re eligible for

Bottom line: The work permit is linked to your passport at the time of issuance, and its duration will reflect the passport’s expiry.

2. PR Application
  • Your PR application (once AOR is issued) is not directly impacted by your passport expiring.
  • However, you’ll need a valid passport for:
    • E-COPR issuance
    • PR card issuance
    • Landing

  • Once you have your new passport, you just send it to IRCC via webform—they’ll update your PR file with the new passport
3. Maintained Status & Working Beyond July
Let’s say your work permit is extended only until July (due to passport expiry). Then:
If July comes and your permit expires, you won’t be on maintained status unless you submit a new extension application before the expiry (using your new passport).
  • But if your permit is extended past July (i.e., IRCC overlooked the passport expiry or you updated in time), you’re good to keep working
So here’s what you should do:
Renew your Irish passport now.
  1. Wait until you have the new passport in hand.
  2. Immediately send a webform with the new passport to IRCC for both:
    • Your PR application (even if AOR hasn’t been issued yet), and
    • Your work permit extension application (if still in progress).

  3. If your work permit is already approved, check the expiry date:
    • If it’s shortened due to old passport, apply again with the new one.
    • If it’s valid well past July, you’re fine.

  4. Keep a copy of both passports with you in case of travel, and for any future document verification.

I really really appreciate the detailed reply.

My AOR was issued on February 17th and done biometrics so just going through background checks now.
I also got my new passport and sent the webform in for both applications.

I am all good applying for another work permit if the current one doesn't extend beyond my old passport date come July. The 1 part I am not sure about is if I can apply for BOWP? I couldn't before as I knew I wouldn't get the AOR in time. As my work permit is a closed one as in it was a LMIA exempt one involving my employer submitting a job offer through the government portal am I allowed get a BOWP?
If so I am all good then.
