Hello Everyone!

I am starting this thread to see if anyone here has encountered SOWP refusal due to missing NBI Clearance, as well as visitor visa refusal for their children (primary work permit applicant was also refused). Her husband is a TFW with LMIA. Please share your experience here. Did anyone have a positive result after reapplying for a visa with a valid NBI clearance? Any advice from the group would be greatly appreciated.

My sister’s spousal open work permit application was refused today - no NBI clearance submitted. It wasn’t listed as a requirement on her online application, but it seems to be necessary. She was denied exactly two weeks after submitting her application.

Here is here timeline:
  • App Submitted: Dec 9/24
  • Biometrics Requested: Dec 9/24
  • Biometrics Completed: Dec 12/24
  • Medical Requested: Dec 15/24
  • Medical Completed: Dec 19/24
  • Application Refused: Dec 23/24
I just realized that Philippines has a documents checklist—Work Permit Manila Visa Office Instructions. While this link also mentions that police certificates are needed in addition to the medical exam.

Your response is highly appreciated. Thank you so much in advance.

Sharing an update in case anyone encounters this situation in the future:
  • December 26, 2024: Reapplied for SOWP and 3 visitor visas for my kids (ages 3, 4, and 7), including the recent NBI Clearance Certificate.
  • January 15, 2025: Approved SOWP and 2 visitor visas for my kids (ages 3 and 4); refused the visitor visa for my 7-year-old. Reasons:
    1. As you are school age, you are required to submit a study permit application.
    2. Your proposed length of stay in Canada is inconsistent with a temporary stay given the details you have provided in your application.
  • January 19, 2025: Applied for a minor study permit. Looking forward to her approval soon, in God’s perfect timing.
I hope this helps anyone in a similar situation! ;)
