    Thank you roar your response. 1. I think that's why we were confused, he did put his original birth certificate in the application, while it was in German it had English translations included so we didn't go through it being "officially" translated / accredited, we will do this extra step...

    I am probably overthinking this yes, what threw me off was that the only option to apply under family class used the word spouse (and we are common law not yet married). He's currently here under a youth mobility visa and working for a Canadian employer.
