Working in Dubai, UAE since April 2016 with my wife. Tried to apply FSW to Alberta via an immigration services agency in Dubai in 2008, did not get any updates til 2010, until we checked directly with CIC about our application. We were informed via email that our application has been rejected for almost over a year already and that they have sent this info to our representative a long time already. Paid this agency a quite large amount of fees, did not get any refund.
Lost hope.
Applied for tourist visas to Canada and visited our aunt in Toronto on 2011. At the airport, we met my wife's acquaintance from her hometown, who happens to work in an immigration agency in Toronto and advsied us to explore the possibility of studying and working in Canada.
When we got back in Dubai, we did some research, looked for a school in Alberta (in Red Deer - where my wife has a cousin), decided to give it a try. We had her school credentials attested, I took a loan from a local bank here in Dubai, filed for school admission, she got accepted - and we filed for a student visa application - initially for one year. After two weeks - we received an email that it was approved. December 2014 - she resigned from her job as a cargo supervisor and flew to Canada as a student. I stayed in Dubai to support her.
After finishing 1 year of studies, she decided to extend one more year so she can become an accountant on the way to get her CPA license.
After finishing 2 years, she graduated and applied for her work permit. She was initially given a 1 year work permit due to her passport validity of just one year. She travelled to Manila on vacation and renewed her passport and re-applied for an extension of her work permit. CIC approved it an gave her 2 more years validity on her work permit.
She then applied for AINP - under the International Student Stream and got nominated. After getting her nomination, we applied immediately for PR and after one year, we landed inland in CIC office Calgary and received our COPR on May 16, 2019.
By the way, from 2015 to 2018 I tried to apply for SOWP online, got refused, went for flagpoling to get my SOWP twice in Coutts border, get rejected as well, then again at the Calgary airport CBSA, got rejected. Reason was the NOC code was C for my wife's current work that time. But finally made it and we are now PR holders.
