So , in my case I placed my passport front page on the scanner & the system recognized all my details; I didn't place my PR card (which is expired) anywhere near the scanner, which is what u assume I did. But the passport scan (not the page w PRTD) was enough, apparently

Option b) is the right way to do it. You can even travel to Canada in May ‘23, a few days before your PR Card expires, then return to India & subsequently apply for a PRTD

Current PR Card, not PR TD. The latter is only if your PR Card has Expired, is Missing or Stolen, and anyway takes a while for processing
