@forw.jane Is it still the case or
No need to have surrender certificate if country of birth is India? My wife just got Canadian passport and we are travelling in March so I’m unsure if we will be able to get surrender certificate by then.
I will be curious to know the answer to this as we have travel plans in March and yet to apply for Canadian passport. Also is there a link to forum where we can follow the surrender certificate timeline? Especially BLS Mississauga/ High Commission Toronto?
No. The only option you have is to reschedule or request a video oath ceremony which has its own implications. All those will be available in your official invitation.
If you're lucky enough to get hold of them then yes, check with them. Else, I would go by the official invitation. Also, make sure all your information are accurate in the invitation.
It depends sometimes they send along or as soon as the status changes. In some cases after weeks/months. Mine changed to 'In progress' on Dec 4th but till date no email or update.
I 100% agree that they can see a bit more on real time. But, none of the agents that I have spoken to in at least 5 times never want to disclose and just say that it is within the standard processing time.
You do not need to surrender Indian passport to apply for e-Visa. Once you get Canadian Passport or even take up oath it is safe to not use Indian passport for travel.
