    Deferring EI

From the info I have been able to gather so far, 1. Can the person still get all his 36 EI payouts once he is back to Canada in mid-2025? Apparently yes, for the period which is within the expiration date. 2. Does the person still need to fill online reporting, even he is outside, or can we...

    Deferring EI

@Naturgrl Just called Service Canada. They said the person can continue the benefits when they are back (before the end of 52 weeks). So this is good, and something I hoped and expected. But they also said that if the period of absence is 6 weeks consecutive, then online reporting is...

    Deferring EI

Hmm. This rings a bell. I am inclined to think that if the application had not been made now, and only after the return to Canada. But there is a 4 week deadline to file a claim after being laid off. So that is a dead end. I guess the only recourse now is to keep filing the reports stating...

    Deferring EI

As long as I have your attention. I did go through this document earlier too, and understand the stipulation of staying in Canada 'for' actively looking and 'being available' for joining a job if offered. However, that section on 'When Payments Stop' I believe is for payments that have already...

    Deferring EI

Thanks for your response. I do understand that the person needs to be in Canada to get EI. The question is that if the person is out of Canada, for say 15 weeks from now on, and then comes back. Will he still be able to begin collecting EI for the next 36 weeks (starting the day he came back to...

    Deferring EI

Case in Question 1. Person lost job due to mass layoff by Employer, so eligible for EI 2. Applied for EI, Service Canada approved payouts for 36 weeks, with a start (in Sep 2024), and end date (in 2026) 3. Person had to immediately go outside Canada (North America) for some unavoidable long...

    OCI process

They might need to check it on the application day, but they don't hold on to it. We have traveled outside Canada while our OCI application was under process.

    OCI process

You have waited just about it takes for Vancouver applicants to see a status change in this duration. You being an Ottawa applicant (not that it should matter for OCI), give them some more time I would day (may be a week). Rest assured it won't be as bad as Ottawa BLS holding onto your originals. :)

    OCI process

I recently picked up my OCI card personally. I had requested self pickup while applying, so I just went on the day the status changed to Available for Pickup. Just take along the slips they give on the day of application. In general, they do push for Courier delivery or sign you up for that...

    OCI process

I got them done last year (2021) and before expiry (so they were valid). As I hinted at earlier, I think they have their own way to selecting whether to go for physical police verification or not.

    OCI process

Of course you can apply for (multiple) Entry Visa. That's what the new Canadian Passport is for. Yes, I think you do need to surrender the Indian Passport and obtain the Surrender Certificate. Some people have applied for both of these together.

    OCI process

You may opt for both options for the address to be mentioned on the Indian Passport. Giving Canadian address would perhaps be easier, just submit address proof. I had done that. Police verification was still carried out though, perhaps if not for Indian address verification, but for other...

    OCI process

I was kind of expecting the same, and it is reassuring to know it is the case. What are then those couple of empty pages for? Perhaps, some future amendments.

    OCI process

I would be interested in the answer to this too. Additionally, I am curious if arrival/departure stamps are put on the OCI or not. This is important because it does not have many empty pages and is liable to fill up fast if someone travels a lot. Would require renewal in that case I guess.
