I guess you can just keep it and create a new one as soon as it expires to be ready, I guess it doesn't matter much as long as you have always a profile up! Here you can see the official info from IRCC. You also should be able to find that again in your first messages from IRCC when you created...

Hello! I sent my request for Dutch Certificate of conduct per email to "Justis" on July 28. They shipped the document to Germany on August 2, and I received it today, August 8. Pretty easy and fast process!

I would think so. I had the same status message change after one day I had submitted an extra bank letter via CSE. But who knows? :)

For status update, you will receive just an email saying that you have an update on your profile, most of the time, but not always, and without specifics, and sometimes they're also delayed. So, it varies... :D

Yes, this is also an option when someone has the possibility to authorize another person who currently lives in the Netherlands, indeed. Please note that the link I gave also contains this authorization form, but in English :), in case someone can't speak Dutch.
