if you go to Passport service centre rather than mailing them, you can get the passport back in 2 weeks without any expedition. I just applied for my son last week and I'm getting the passport next week. Wait time was just 1 hour at the centre. This is in NB. not sure how its in other...

Having a travel plan is not a valid reason for urgent processing. Some of the common reasons are Federal Jobs/Studies/joining in military etc. so if you cannot change your travel plans you need to be prepared to come back in case of oath or postpone it if you cannot come back
