This does not make sense, if at all you plan to leave canada and then intend to come back , why not just wait for spousal PR to be completed. This way you would not have to get into unnecessary hassle of applying for TRV or OWP. Sorry i did not get the point here.

i presume the passport validity also is getting over in 5 years , hence the timeline for vv as well. Its normal . Most of the times people do get refundable return ticket in case the officer ask for it at the poe. Is it a multiple entry or single entry ?

why have you not applied for OWP yet ? i assume you'd have the AOR from the spousal PR application. correct me if i am wrong , if someone applies for OWP, he/she need not apply for extension of visitor visa and can stay on implied status till the OWP is approved . is it ?

did you check while booking appointment the name of the applicant ? in my case the last name seems to be blank and can't update it. There is a drop down asking if the name in the PPR is same as of passport. yours looks fine is it ?
