Guys hope you are all doing well.
My lawyer is offering me to apply for Diploma in Marketing Management at Langara College in Vancouver. I am currently an MBA holder (as some of you know already, and my employer is willing to sponsor me for this program). Considering my case and the chosen college and degree, do you think it is a good option for me?
- For those who might not know my background, my current employer is willing to sponsor me to study a (preferrebly) marketing degree in Canada
Thanks in advance for your comments
it's simply a visa to enter, if you want to go to a Uni then consider one. DLI selection depends on our personal reasons.
I'd choose a diploma mill cause it's simply a visa sponsor. to study i'd choose a uni in england,

I am not sure Ottawa is processing based on AOR date. I have not seen any July or August remed requests but some from later months got requests.
The order is all over the place. Who knows if they're prioritising based on NOC.Since they're giving priority to PNPs it is not inconceivable that they are picking and choosing from the pool based on demands from the job market.

Oh I missed to mention what I exactly meant by good here bro :) I meant regarding the visa chances
If I understand correctly you are in Canada working for a Canadian employer. Are you on a closed work permit right now? You got LMIA? What province are you in? Because you might already have a great chance at a PNP in that province since you're employed. Long story short I think you don't need further education for permanency in Canada if you look at your PNP options.

Regardless, first ensure Langara College is a designated learning institution (DLI) in Canada which means its degrees are worth something in terms of immigration. I'm not familiar with marketing degrees but the rule of thumb is you aim for a 2 year master's degree or whatever you call your "graduate degree". You gotta make sure it's a graduate degree. A 2 year long grad degree gives you a 3 year long PGWP in most cases.

TL;DR: Look for PNP first. If it doesn't suit you, find out if that degree is a 2 year long "grad" degree. Take it if it is, probably drop it and look for a grad degree if it isn't if your sole concern is immigration.

I am not in Canada bro. My current local employer - in my country - is willing to sponsor me to study in Canada. By Graduate Degree, do you mean a university degree? So you mean going for a diploma at a college for me who already own an MBA is not a good option? In my country we do not have a specialized marketing management degree tho, we have only business administration with marketing major/minor

I'm May and I've not seen much movement on May and June 2020 applications though there are updates for the months before and after that. Maybe they did screw up with some files. If Ottawa is going chronologically, I should see something next month or the month after. Idk I just try to forget I applied at this point lol
I am not entirely sure about "losing" files, thats unlikely. But something to do with it being stuck in a suboptimal pipeline, because they tried to distribute it among VOs outside CIO. bear in mind this is conjecture, i am NOT sure where i read this, or if i am even remembering it correctly

Or its just simply that IRCC hasnt got to files in may, june, that seems more likely

Foreign employer willing to sponsor you for a degree in Canada? Damn bro, lucky.

In STEM fields, we first go to university as "undergrads" for typically four years. That's where we get our "bachelor's degree"s. After obtaining our bachelor's degree we're entitled to practise our professions. We then may choose to go back to school to obtain a "graduate degree" and as you can see grad degrees require a four year university diploma. So yes, a graduate degree is a university degree but it is one you get AFTER obtaining your MINIMUM credentials to practise your profession. Usually your "MBA" (master of business administration) is equivalent of a "master's degree" which is a graduate degree.

Langara College seems to offer "PGWP-eligible programs": https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/study-canada/study-permit/prepare/designated-learning-institutions-list.html

Name of institutionDesignated learning institution number (DLI #)CityOffers PGWP-eligible programs
Langara CollegeO19319074622VancouverYes

Now you need to find out if your chosen program at Langara College meets below PGWP requirements:

https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/post-graduation-work-permit-program/eligibility.html

The most critical of those requirements is:

  • They have completed an academic, vocational or professional training program at an eligible institution in Canada that is at least 8 months in duration leading to a degree, diploma or certificate.
You said it was a diploma program so it's good. If it is also an academic, vocational or professional training program, then it'd give you a PGWP. HOWEVER, you gotta make sure that the program is at least 2 years long because the length of your PGWP will not exceed the length of your studies in that program (except for a STEM master's degree which gives you 3 year long PGWP instead of 2). It looks all good but to be really sure send Langara College an email and ask if the program is PGWP-eligible.

Why is it important for your program to be at least 2 years long? Do the CEC work experience calculation and you'll see. You need at least 1 year of Canadian experience. You'll need time for job hunt so 1 year programs won't cut it because you'll get a 1 year long PGWP for finishing a 1 year program. Pretty risky.

Man, better and more detailed than any immigration lawyer :)
Much appreciate the full details. The 2 year program definitely sound better. However, as my employer is already offering to appoint me at our overseas subsidary once I complete the degree - we are planning to run a sibsidary, not yet established tho - I would not be dissappointed if can not earn a PR in Canada. Will just move to Europe with my employer. For now I am just focusing on utilizing this chance to earn a more reputable degree in my feild, as my current degree is not from a very reputable country.
Thank you so much for putting the effort in wiritng such a detailed reply bro. Cheers.

My friend is currently experiencing this. AOR Nov 2020. She did upfront medicals last year August (previous expired September 2021) and is struggling to get IRCC to link it to her application. Over 10 webforms sent, still no joy :( .
Happened with some of my friends.

If your employer is sponsoring, why not just go for a Master's?
