Rescheduling Oath Ceremony

Did you try call CIC lately? I called them today . Nobody will talk to you unless you are from Afghanistan.

I have not. I was not aware that they were only taking calls about Afghanistan matters. But, I knew that it wouldn't be easy to speak with someone anyways, so that's why I took this opportunity to speak with them today during the Oath and get as much information as I could.

I'll post more information here when I hear back from them, but I'm not expecting anything before I get back at the end of January.

Hi all,

Oath Ceremony (Calgary office):
- All the statuses, except the Oath Ceremony, were updated to Completed on Oct 28, 2021.
- About 4 weeks later, the Oath Ceremony Status changed to In Progress on Nov 20, 2021, and I got an invite email two days after asking me to attend the ceremony on December 15, 2021. Since I'm not currently in Canada, I sent them an email asking them to reschedule it after January 2022.

It's been about a week since I have sent them an email asking to reschedule it but haven't heard anything back from them. Has anyone rescheduled the Oath Ceremony? If yes, how long did it take to get a response, and did they give a new date?

Sorry, I did not ask about it. I don't think it's something they "like" people to do, otherwise, she would have suggested I take the oath at that time.

However, when I had an interview a couple of weeks ago, the officer said that if I wanted to take the Oath from outside of Canada, I'd have to contact them and explain the situation, but she didn't recommend it because they would have to mail the certificate to the outside of Canada and it would cause delays. Also, after getting the certificate, you would have to apply for a Canadian passport from a Canadian consulate which will be a hassle. They are very slow, and in Covid times, it's even slower.

I'm trying to find one As of now, it all seems to be applicable to extremely special cases - I don't know what is the criteria for IRCC. Let's see. We are all trying to navigate through this chaos. As of now, I haven't found a single person who has actually taken oath from outside the country. I'm trying to find one As of now, it all seems to be applicable to extremely special cases - I don't know what is the criteria for IRCC. Please let us all know if you actually know someone who has pulled it off.

About the only justification I have found (admittedly, very anecdotally and on this forum) is that the Oath may be administered abroad for people that are working in service of the Crown (basically, Canadian government work outside of Canada - armed forces, embassies and so on.) Pretty much everyone else is out of luck.

My wife received invitation for oath on Jan 18. Good news but...

We were scheduled to fly out on Dec 31 for 6+ months. But now we think to stay back, complete the oath and other formalities before going out of the country. Need to cancel or reschedule so many things.

I agree with your train of thought. If you can reschedule your trip, I suggest doing it and getting your application out of the way.

Hi all
My citizenship ceremony was on august 3, when I was outside candad , I emailed to reschedule on august 2 , 2021, . Today the oath status changed from in Process to not started. Just confused…pls help …

Following this thread, as I am waiting for the Oath invite and there is high likelihood that I will be outside Canada, when the oath invitation comes.

A friend of mine working in the US travelled back to Canada to attend his oath. During the oath he informed them that he need to return to his workplace in the US before receiving the certificate. He was allowed to give a local Canadian address to which the certificate will be sent and his friend will forward it to the US address. The Judge also mentioned that my friend can apply for the passport at the Canadian consulate in New York. Obviously he cannot re-enter Canada until the passport is ready, since the PR card has been destroyed already.

I guess, when my oath invitation comes, I shall write an email requesting permission for attending the Oath from abroad, and if it is not allowed, or I don't get a response for the email, do a short trip to Canada for the oath day, and then do the rest of the formalities from abroad.

Hope they start allowing to attend the oath from outside Canada as many people have waited for so long to get to this stage and the international travel is still not easy due to COVID restrictions.

Hello Everyone.

I missed my Oath ceremony 6th Jan 2021 due to out of country.
I came back in MAY and send Boarding Passes through email.
Still i received no answer. I called alot and called IRRC NO but no one answer due to Afghanistan situation.
My online application status last update on 23 April and its mentioned Oath ceremony not started 6th January.
Almost more than seven months waiting for the Oath. No news.
Please give me some information about my current situation.
