To Fill or Not :Dependent Details: Generic Application Form IMM 0008

Hi Seniors,

I want to sponsor my wife on Spousal PRship.Her family details are:

Her Self.......applicant
Father..........not dependent her
Mother.......not dependent her
Elder Sister ......married and not dependent her
Younger Sister .......married not dependent her


1) As per form Generic Application Form IMM 0008:
Dependent (s) column says:
.......You must provide the details of the your family member, whether they will accompany you to Canada or not.........

Since none of her family members are dependent on her......makes me assume that she does not need to fill any family member's details

BUT

As per guide no. 5289:
.You must list all family members in your application, whether they will accompany you to Canada or not:

This makes me assume that she has to fill all the above family member's details

Pls guide whether to FILL or NOT FILL the details of her family members.

For this form, immediate family members (spouses, their dependent children).

Once married and left family - not immediate family any more (for these pursposes).

There is a family info form which will have info about eg parents and adult siblings.

Are you referring to IMM5406: Additional Family Information form ?

If your wife is the principal applicant, no, she should not also be a dependent (of herself).

Yes, my wife is the principal and the only applicant....no one else in her family is dependent on her
So should the Dependent column be filled just mentioning her ?

I think you are really clear.

OP likely cannot get pass that the wife (PA) since married to sponsor is her offical only "family".

According to IRCC term, PA's family is: spouse, dependent children under 22 years old.

And from the post, PA do not have any family other than herself. (since OP, her spouse which is part of her family, is the sponsor, that information do not go into IMM 0008.)

Their information go into Additional family information. They are her extended/additional family.

Anyway, in simple terms - on IMM0008, spouse of a sponsor is the principal applicant. If they have no dependents (i.e. children), that's it.
