Hello,

I am writing this to get some guidance with the general process for the PGP sponsorship as I am in doubt on a couple of areas. Any help from members who have gone through this process or have an understanding would be much appreciated. My questions are sort of general hence felt this thread would be perfect.

As a background - I am a PR who is looking to sponsor my parents into Canada (they are currently living outside) - I`ll be acting as their representative throughout the process as they are not proficient in filling out forms amongst other correspondences with IRCC. Here some questions/ areas I was hoping to get clarity over:-

1. The application/ account - I wanted to understand whether the process starts with me (sponsor) creating an online account on CIC OR do I simply fill out the "interest to sponsor" forms and courier them to the Ottawa office address and this is when the process starts?. every time I check the CIC website for sponsorship, the webpage states that the 2020 applications are closed and they`ll announce 2021. When they announce 2021, are they announcing the draw or is this the time to actually submit your paper/ electronic forms?

2. The forms - I searched and found the pdf forms to fill out but i noticed that the "interest to sponsor" forms are 2020. Should I continue to fill these in and submit my application - Do the forms change year over year making the previous forms redundant? or Should i wait for 2021 forms to be released first before i fill them out. Please do let me know if you have recently sent your application package. What forms did you use?

3. Consulate vs Ottawa - Since I am the representative, would I be correct in submitting all application contents to the Ottawa office, and therefore, my parents don`t need to send any form/ document to the local consulate in their country?

Please do let me know when you get a chance. I`d very much appreciate your responses as I start out on my journey.

Thanks,
P

The program is by lottery and the 2021 program has not been announced yet. So you wait for instructions on entering the lottery or draw. Some people are never selected as it it oversubscribed by the tens of thousands every year.

1. When they announce 2021, they will be announcing instructions for entering the lottery / draw. Wait for these instructions, enter the lottery, and then see if you are selected.

2. No, do not fill these out. They will be updated for the 2021 process. There's also some possibility it will move to an online process. Anyone who recently sent the forms would have applied under the 2020 draw and would have sent the forms that are posted there now. This doesn't apply to your situation since you are waiting for the 2021 draw. Obviously no one has applied under the 2021 draw since that lottery hasn't been held yet and no one has been selected yet.

3. If you are selected through the lottery / draw, you will follow the instructions on the website and submit to the office indicated. There's some possibility the process may move online this year.

Thanks, Scylla!! Much appreciated.

Just a follow-up question:

I wanted to apply for the 10-year multiple entry visa for my parents - my question was:- Can I complete the online form (here in Canada) on their behalf by creating an IRCC account or would this cause issues? I don`t think I came across any Agent/ representative forms for visitor visas.

Do you have insights on this (i.e. completing an online visitor visa form on behalf of the applicant residing in another country)?

Looking forward to hearing from you.

Certainly lots of posters in this forum had done this before.

I haven`t understood this quite well - Do you mind elaborating step by step?

Specifically - I have an account with CIC, however, I am unable to apply for a visitor visa on behalf of someone else through this.

If I do want to apply for someone else online - Should I create a new email ID (perhaps for the person I am applying for) and then register with CIC? Or Is there another option where I can clearly designate myself as the agent in the application form and then start the application.

I`d appreciate some help as I am clearly stuck.

Your parents must set up their own account. You can do it on their behalf. If you didn’t apply for PGP last year your parents won’t qualify for the draw this year.
