Dear Friends

I am a Master's graduate from India. I am a working in software with 10 years of experience and at present, my age is 38.
Some consultancies told me that I cannot go for another Masters's, even if I apply there are hardly any chances due to heavy competition for M.S programs.. Hence, I have opted for a few diploma 1-year courses and got one offer from the University.

My questions are
1. Are there any chances my study permit gets approved at this age i.e 38?
2. Even if I get a study visa thru the SDS system, would there be any rejections at the port of entry? Of course, I will strong letter of introduction, but how to convince the visa officer?
3. I am single and I don't have solid properties here to show the connections. However, I have family members residing here in my hometown. Should we have to show properties like houses or assets in our name for sure?
4. While raising study visa in SDS, in the document check list, it is asking to upload transcripts. Should we upload official or un-official is fine? Official would be in sealed envelop, then how would we upload?

Please advise, as this is my last chance for immigration as the FSW express entry has become very challenging at this age.

Do a PhD degree, not a diploma.
Hi sb22651
I have tried that as well. But all my applications were rejected, bcoz my master's was not thesis-based, moreover, there is a long gap after my education, and no publications as well. Hence tried alternatives.

When I approached consultancies, everyone said I cannot go for masters again.

Do you think it will be a problem with the diploma?

1. there are other factors VO will consider not just your age to approve or refuse

2. have all the documents ready at POE when arrive. Experience differs but they wont discriminate against your age

3. VO can refuse based on lack of ties ( both social and economic tie ) and that he may not satisfied that you will leave Canada. To add to choice of program, there is question of career progression and whether you are bonafide student

4.Unseal official transcript and upload. Unofficial will be fine too

There's no reason why you should do a diploma in Canada. How can it help you at age 38? In the eyes of the VO, you're trying to stay in Canada using the study permit, right?

Dear Simba112
Thanks for a prompt response.

3 point that you answered: Can I know what could be a lack of ties? I don't have assets here. So showing family will suffice?
Do you think Diploma in Canada after Masters in India will be a problem? or concern for VO to reject?

I strongly believe that diploma after Masters will be a concern for VO. Section 216 of the Immigration Act is broad, and career program, program mismatch are one of them.
At 38, family can be defined as Spouse and or children. Those makes strong tie. Others can be of you own significant share / own a business/ properties and assets etc. At 38 you are adult and very independent

so u tried PhD but didnt try masters? You have a far higher chance of getting into a non funded masters than funded PhD. PhD is funded by professors fund while a non funded masters is money you are giving to university, there is no reason why PhD would be easier to get
I suggest go for Masters in a good university, and try to opt for a Masters which both makes sense given your background but also gives you an oppurtunity to gain skills in a related but different area

Your age, on its own, is not a problem at all. Your intended program is.

As all have advised, go for Masters - try a specialization different from the one you have, like Data Science, AI, Information Security etc.

Your profile is quite risky with being 38 years old and no nuclear family as solid home tie. Throw in a diploma after Masters and you'd have the VO raising eyebrows.

I am single, no properties. So only worried how I would be able to convince VO.

Thanks for the response.

Yes, I tried Masters's as well. All got rejected. Even with specialization with my career match collaborative specializations. They all got rejected with rejection letters that competition and certain undisclosed parameters.

What is your CGPA?
Did you try course-based programs as well? Which universities did you try? I'm going for Masters in computer science as well. Applied to 9 schools and got accepted in 6. Perhaps I can give you pointers on which schools are most likely to accept you based on your GPA.

Dear Wonderbly
thanks fore the response.
yes I have applied for Masters with specialization for this fall, and all got rejected. The rejection letter is generic and not mentioned reasons, rather the specified programs are competetive.

Ya as you mentioned 38 is risky profile, with no immediate family members. However, I have father, brother and sister.
Yes even my eyebrows raising about diploma, thats the reason I am seeking advise here.

The main reason I applied diploma was all my previous Masters, Ph.d applications got rejected.

As express entry is nearly hard to get and no draws have happened since last year.
Some consultancies suggested to go for study, however, even they were uncertain whether I will be accepted by VO.

I am in chaos.... a bit.

Dear wonderblly
My Masters CGPA was 7.98 out of 10. [ Computer Science]
My bachelors was 80% [ Maths ]
Professional IT experience : 10 years

yes, i applied for course-based as well.
I have applied for Ryerson, dalhousie, western, UoM, Carleton, SFU, mcgill. All got rejected for this year fall.

I am guessing besides cgpa , they might be looking for education gap as well , some consultancies said this.

You can research about PNP Program for International Candidates. Manitoba has planned TECH TALENT- Recruitment Mission in Brazil October 18-22 under Strategic Recruitment Campaign which will land you 500 points, enough to qualify for Manitoba PNP. If you can secure spot and travel to Brazil, You may be recruited and hired by employer, arriving as Permanent Resident. You have good education and experience in IT. I know someone who flew from My Country to UAE to attend similar program that was offered by New Brunswick, and he was hired and arrived as Permanent Resident.
