It depends on your need, if both of you are applying for PR or Citizenship or College admissions, you have both have to take IELTS

You have to keep trying as many test get cancelled because some people over booked .

You have to check the requirements for English Language proficiency of the institutions you are applying to , check on IELTS.org

When you apply for the PR card, you will have to take IELTS to show your English proficiency .
