Identity and Civil Status Documents question

Hello

I was wondering if anyone could help me.

In the document checklist for the immigrant, section 6 'Identity and Civil Status Documents question' lists quite a few points...

Am i correct in assuming that the only one that applies to me is the copy of a marriage certificate because i am being sponsored by my wife(Canadian Citizen)?

Or do i also need to provide a birth certificate?

Please help! I am so close to getting my app sent off i just want to make sure i dont miss anything!

If you read the visa office specific checklist, you will find that all offices require a birth certificate. If your country of birth/residence has a national identity card, you will need that as well.

I hate to contradict you PMM (it looks like you know what you're talking about), but I interpreted my region specific guide in a different way, and now I am having doubts that I did it right. Here is what it says for East Europe.

IDENTITY AND CIVIL STATUS DOCUMENTS
Provide the following:
• national identity cards,
• birth certificates,
• baptismal certificates or,
• other official document confirming relationship for you and each of your family members.

To me, the "or" after baptismal certificates means that you only need one of these four items...am I wrong? I hope not, because I haven't gotten the birth certificate translated, or notarized thinking that all I needed was the National ID card. If you do need three of the four items, what exactly has been used as "other official document confirming relationship for you and each of you family members"? Because that would be the route we would have to go, I guess.

Supersham, the way I understood it you would need only one of the previous four (if your regional guide says the same thing as ours), plus your marriage certificate...can anyone else clarify this? PMM forgive me, I don't mean to doubt you, even if I am really, really hoping that you are wrong...could you possibly explain in layman's language what they are asking for?

Mine (for Western Europe) seemed to be equally confusing - it seemed to say that I didn't really need my birth certificate unless I had accompanying family members and needed to prove their relationship to me. I called CIC to confirm and they recommended including the birth certificate because it's better to give too much information than too little and have it requested at a later date which will slow down your application. So I included it, figured it couldn't do any harm!

Everyone pretty much sends every ID that they have, including the brith certificate. The reason is that a lot of VO's request these documents later, so in order to avoid any further delays in your application, people send everything they can.

Birth certificates, in particular, are always requested if they are not provided with the initial application. I have read about people that do not have any birth certificate and have to get sworn declarations of their age instead, to replace this document.

This is late but I thought I would reply. You definetely need a birth certificate (this I called the Call centre about and they checked on it). We didn't have one and needed to apply for it. If the option was to send just one of the things listed, there would be the word "or" listed beside each item (indicating you have a choice). The only thing that is not needed is the registration card and the baptism certificate as it's not always available in each country or for each person depending on the religion.

The embassy that will be issuing the visa is most likely request the birth certificate if its not in the file already (it only needs to be a copy).

For official documents that are not in english or french, you need an official translation ( not one that you do yourself) from an accredited translator. (registered etc). Most of the time there is some type of official stamp during the translation process (it depends on your country etc). The translator will make a certified copy of the original document and attach it to the official translation.

Usually a passport is not enough. I think she will need something more. Like household registry, etc.

17 is a bit young. I don't know if there is a minimum age to sponsor a wife. You may want to check this out.

The concern I see is that IMM1344 Application to Sponsor, Sponsorship Agreement and Undertaking, is a legally binding contract that needs to be signed by both sponsor and applicant.

A 17 year old is not of legal age in Canada to sign a contract and there isn't really a provision for a parent/guardian to sign for her.

For the Civil Status Document, do I need one as a main applicant? Can I use my passport and my Canadian driver's licence?
