Post Graduate Work Permit Amendment

Hello,

I received my post-graduate work permit in July 2020. When I applied for the work permit I requested a small change in my name as per my latest passport. They misunderstood the change and made a mistake again. Then after I applied for an amendment to the Ottawa office and sent all the required documents along with my original work permit.

It has been more than two months now I have not heard back anything from them. I also got no notification for acceptance or rejection. The standard processing time is one month. I need my original work permit copy to apply for jobs. I tried calling the IRCC helpline and they are not picking up. Also, raised a web form, and no response from them as well.

Anyone going through a similar situation? Are there any hopes of getting the work permit back?

Any help would be highly appreciated.

Did you send it via xpresspost ? Tracked it ?

Paper applications can take longer than 1 month processing time, all due to Covid.
I had to do the same thing, it was done in a month, but that was pre-covid.

Thanks for your response. Yes, I sent it via Xpresspost and it was delivered the second of the postal. After that, there was no communication from IRCC. However, they say on their website that they send an email after receiving the application.

Not necessarily.
I never got an email, the only time I got an email was when my amendment application was approved.

I hope they open my application soon and respond with approval/rejection. I am dependent on WP copy. Did you send it to OSC, 365 Laurier Ave W, Ottawa?

If sending your package by regular mail or XpressPost, send it to:
Amendment to the Record of Landing, Confirmation of Permanent
Residence or Temporary Resident Document
Operations Support Centre (OSC)
P.O. Box 8784 STN T CSC
Ottawa, Ontario K1G 5J3

The other address is for couriers.
Edit: For registered post too.
So you should be fine, the delay is due to Covid perhaps.

I'd suggest calling the CSC line, tell me where you sent it, they may look into it by calling their office maybe?

Today, I got a new message from IRCC on the online portal saying that biometric information is updated. Nothing about the amendment though. Are they going to repeat all the steps again that they did while issuing the original work permit?

At least keep a copy or a picture of any document you get from IRCC you never know what is going to happen to paper docs, I dont know the requirements here but sending originaly is always something you want to avoid.
Also due to covid they are either not processing paper applications or processing them very slowly, there is a news story out there of them just pilling up the mail received that is why it was not entered in the system for a long time and they are just now getting scanners and stuff so they can process these applications hence the delay.

That's normal, your old WP may show invalid now?

They should mail out the new one soon.
Amendments are different.

Actually, on IRCC online portal, they changed my previous WP application status from Approved to Submitted again, and they issued a Biometric correspondence letter again today. The current application status is in progress along with eligibility and background check. I am not sure if they are going to reassess the whole application again. All I have just a name formate change as an amendment though.
