PGWP and working

I will be graduating this semester and I thought that, knowing that study permits allow students to work full-time outside of school during breaks, I would be allowed to do that after my last class before graduation.

Am I legally allowed to pursue full-time work after my last class, or is it only part-time?

Also, if I receive my final grades in a transcript, do I have to immediately stop working until I apply for PGWP?

Thank you

No, you can't work full time since school will still be in "session," and before your last day of the semester, you would have already received your transcript. (Assuming your study permit is still valid).

When you get your transcripts and graduation confirmation, you should stop working until submitting your PGWP application. That's when you can work full time.

Thank you for the clarification. I found more guidance too at https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/temporary-residents/study-permits/campus-work.html#off-campus

Would I be able to apply for PGWP only with a transcript and add the letter of confirmation later, or do I need to have a valid excuse for that? Thanks!
No, you will need a graduation confirmation first before you submit your application. You might have a transcript, then boom, you get an email that you can't graduate because you are missing 1 class.

Oh I just checked with my advisor recently and I'm not missing any classes thus far so can definitely graduate thankfully!

I thought maybe I can submit a PGWP application with just an online transcript with the final grades. I get it on April 30th and letter of completion late May after graduation ceremony. Can I still just apply with that final transcript?

You can still work part-time until you get your final confirmation that you are graduating. I am pretty sure you will need confirmation from your school as part of your application. And you usually get it before your graduation. Probably the first or second week of May.

Before you can apply for a PGWP, you need

  • an official letter from your school that confirms you’ve completed your study program
  • an official transcript, or a copy of your transcript from your school’s website

IRCC has set some COVID-19 guidelines:
https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/corporate/publications-manuals/operational-bulletins-manuals/service-delivery/coronavirus/temporary-residence/study-permit/pgwpp.html

Documents to submit
Due to school closures, many international students may be unable to obtain a letter of completion or final transcript from their designated learning institution (DLI). As a temporary facilitation measure, applicants who apply for a post-graduation work permit (PGWP) will be allowed to submit an application without their letter of completion or final transcript. When IRCC processes the application, the documents will be requested by the processing officer as per the procedures for Requests for additional documents on open applications.

Thank you! However my DLI isn't closed, so my excuse to apply without either documents will fall through right? I do have to attach some sort of letter of explanation? What do I say seeing as my DLI is open (remotely) but I don't want to wait until I receive final grades?

I believe it's for any DLI.
I would suggest commenting on the PGWP thread, I will post a link below.
And ask there if anyone has applied without unofficial documents.

The guidelines were set out since many DLI's had issues and delays due to staff working from home. Again, comment on the PGWP thread and ask people since many have just applied in Dec,Jan and Feb.

I am pretty sure you will get your final grades before the actual last day of the semester. What's the rush for?
