Spousal Sponsorship vs Accompanying Spouse through Express Entry - Clarification

Hi all,

My partner and I are applying together through the Express Entry FSW program. He is our principal applicant and I am his accompanying common law partner. When the Canada.ca website refers to “spouses being sponsored for immigration” would I fit into this category? Or is this only if he were already there as a permanent resident and then sponsored me to come separately?

Thank you!

Sponsorship generally refers to spousal/family sponsorship. Make sure you are only reading about Express Entry.

Hi @primaprime, thanks for the clarification! We're specifically concerned about my express entry medical exam as a common law partner.

On the Canada.ca page called "Medical Exam for Permanent Resident Applicants" it states:
Before you submit your application
If you’re applying under the Express Entry Program, you have the option of getting an exam before you apply. This is called an upfront medical exam. To get one, contact a panel physician directly.

You can’t get an upfront medical exam if you’re being sponsored as a spouse, partner or child. Wait for our instructions before going for your medical exam.

Would the last sentence apply to me? Or is this only if my partner were already a permanent resident?

Thank you for your help!!

Hey, I think I am confused as well. Under sponsorship, I would be responsible for my partner financially for 3 years. Is it the same for accompanying partners under Express Entry when I am the main applicant? If not, do I have any responsibilities I have to be aware of or is it just an EE visa for my partner "without strings attached"? Thanks

This does not apply under Express Entry (only spousal sponsorship). There are no responsibilities under EE.
