Super Visa

Hello, I am new to Canada and have just started work this month. I want my parents to join me here for 1 year and want to apply for a super visa for them. I am going to write the Letter of invitation for my parents where I will take guarantee that I am going to be liable for all expenses of my parents.

Situation: I am currently temporary living with my sister in a rental property for which the government is paying. My sister is going through a difficult separation with her husband and therefore the government is paying for rent until she gets a job.

If I apply for my parents super visa mentioning the address I am currently residing in, will it have any affect on the decision? I can afford my own housing but due to Covid and for my sister's emotional support I am bound with her.

That's a bit of a tough question.

Has your sister officially declared that you are living in the government subsidized rental property with her?

Its not a government subsidized rental property. Its the same place where she was living with her husband before but now husband has left and yes she did declare that I am living with her.

Was going to say the same thing. You must inform the government that you are living there. The taxpayer should not be paying her rent if you are living there and are able to pay rent. You likely have to move out of start paying the rent for the apartment. Your sister can get in very big trouble allowing you to live with her.

To apply for a supervisa you have to prove that you made the LICO amount last year. If you just arrived you likely haven't made enough money in Canada yet. It doesn't sound like your sister will be able to invite your parents.

Did she declare that you were working and living with her? The taxpayer should not be paying rent for someone working who can afford to pay rent. These support policies are for those who have no means to pay rent.

When she applied for the government funds, I was not working and the government pays a part of it as its an expensive property so I pay a major portion of it even when I was not working and she is entitled to live with whomever she wants and still get funds for herself and her children. If I'm not there she will have to move to a subsidized property with the funds she gets. Can we please move on from the taxpayer point of view?

OK - got it.

I honestly don't know the answer to your question. It's a pretty unique situation.

I guess you can try and see what happens.

Declaring that you are living there and working is actually very important. I am sure she signed something indicating she has to update the government if there is a change in who lives in the home and whether anyone is earning income in the household. Think you will find that people really care where taxpayer money goes. It is actually quite serious not declaring your income to whatever program she is receiving rent relief from.

That is something I need to check with her since she is in constant coordination with assistance program coordinator so maybe she did tell that person but i am not sure and yes I am aware of how funds are important to so many people especially in these times. Thanks for your help though and concern.

One more thing. Since it does not say I need to have filed a tax return last year, I can also show my pay stubs for the proof of funds..will that work?

It is pretty standard that household income is considered when qualifying for any support programs. Money isn't unlimited so if an adult in the household s making enough money to provide a roof over the head of the "family" the money should go to those who can't provide shelter. Had you already had a job when she got a divorce she may never have sought financial support.

Supervisa requires you to prove that you have earned money in Canada already to meet LICO and not that your salary will lead you to meet LCO in the next year. That is why NOA is the preferred document and why most do not qualify for a supervisa until a year after arrival.

Thanks for the help. I'll definitely check if she has updated as it can lead her into trouble if she hasn't.
