I have received my COPR yesterday but not sure if I can travel to Canada right now due to the travel restrictions in place. On their website, the information is confusing in terms of COPR for those before March 18 and after. In very simple terms, can someone please guide me if I can travel right now? The COPR is valid for only 3 months, perhaps due to my medical expiring in March 2021, so I need to know if this will be renewed given the new rules for expired COPRs and PRTDs in case I don't go travel before its expiry. I do not intend to stay very long as I am in the middle of completing a degree and would need to come back. I am planning to travel during the winter break which will be for about 2 months. Will this be enough time to receive my PR card in Canada right now given that all processes have slowed due to Covid-19. Thank you.

If you’re planning on coming temporarily and leaving again, you can’t do that right now unless you meet a different travel exemption.

Hi fwajidmalik,

You said your medical expiring on March. You gave medical on March or you passed the medical on March? Actually I also gave medical on March but as per GCKey , I passed medical on April. I submitted my passport today and getting the COPR within 10 days as per VAC. I was expecting my COPR validity till the beginning of April but seeing your post, I think I also would get around 3 months validity COPR. With the ongoing travel restriction, since we cannot travel now. This gonna be another headache of expiring COPR and medical validity. This corona is giving much headache now.:(

I don’t think you can travel unless you have extended family in Canada that are either PR or Citizen. As far as receiving your PR card in two months, that is not likely. I have a friend who travel back in March and it took her 4 months to get her card.

As per my experience your CoPR will expire in April, exactly 1 year from the date you passed medical. My CoPR is expiring in March 2021. I think we are in the same messy situation right now. Let's keep each other posted about developments of any sort. Which is your VO?

Thank you. That would be great but it seems couple of recently issued COPR validity is 1 month before medical expiry date. Yesterday I received mail from IRCC, they have received my passport and is in process. I will get that by next week and everything will be clear. Hopefully they will make some ease in travel restriction from early next year. My VO is Sydney, Nova Scotia. What abt yours? What abt your medical validity ?

Based on what provided, I don't meet the travel restriction exemption. I really don't know what to do. Any suggestions.
Is you medical expiring on dec? You can just write to IRCC with all the details. There are lots of applicants with same problem. Hopefully they will extend the COPR date. Also, they might ask you for re-medical if expiring or they might extend that as well.

I noticed that this page : https://www.canada.ca/en/immigration-refugees-citizenship/services/coronavirus-covid19/travel-restrictions-exemptions.html#enter
was updated on 2nd November and it lists Permanent Residents as people that can enter canada. Does this not apply to you as a COPR holder or os there something I'm missing?
You do not become a permanent resident until you land in Canada and pass immigration where the officer stamps and gives the final approvals necessary. Being a COPR holder does not make you a permanent resident yet.
